Surf Camps In The Maldives

    WELCOME TO COKE'S CAMP !

It’s now possible to stay in a Guesthouse facing Coke’s surfspot on Thulusdhoo island. You can see the spots from some of the 12 rooms. Cola’s or Coke’s is a worldclass right, probably the most tubular wave in North Malé atoll, being well exposed to swells and winds. There is always surf there but S-SW winds can be side / onshore, W-NW is good / perfect. In summer (March-April and Oct-Nov to some extent), Coke’s is always 1ft bigger than Sultan’s, which makes it the greatest wave in North Malé at this period of the year.

On the other side of the pass, Chicken’s left stands a super playful wave, that can be ridden for 500m and as big as 8-10ft face. Theoretically, you could paddle across but best is to take a short dingy ride (10 USD to be paid there). You can also ask the dingy to take you to other spots like Sultan’s and it’ll cost 25 USD both ways.

Cost (full board) per day : - Single room : 120 USD
- Double room : 105 USD per pers.
- Triple room : 90 USD per pers.
- Bed only : 65 USD

If you are alone and you want to pay a triple or double room price, you can share a room. There is a local cafe in the island where you can get various types of food.

That’s the most affordable land-based option in Maldives.
Price includes :

  • Aircon room
  • 3 meals a day
  • Local surf guide assistance (Adam & Anita : australian couple, Niyaz or Brian)

Transfer from the camp :
Surf transfer to Chickens surf spot (2 hours session) = 10 USD
Surf transfers to other north male atoll points (2hours session) = 25 USD
Night fishing : 30 USD

For transfers from / to airport, there are 2 options :

- By local ferry (dhoni) : 3 USD per way. Ferry is available everyday except tuesday.
The ferry leaves Male at 1530 and arrives at 1700
The ferry leaves Thulusdhoo at 0730 and reaches Malé at 0900 (too sketchy for flights before 1200)

On Fridays :
The ferry leaves Male' at 2230 and reach Thulusdhoo at 2400.
The ferry leaves thulusdhoo at 14:00 and reaches Malé at 1530.

- By speed boat : (from Thulusdhoo)
For one person : 200 USD one way
For two persons : 100 USD one way per person
For three persons : 70 USD one way per person
The price depends on the booking, and how many clients there is for the day.
There is a special rate of 60 USD one way per person if the boat is full.

Notes : prices for 2012 with bed tax and GST included.

    WELCOME TO RIPTIDE'S CAMP !

A new guest-house just opened on Guraidhoo island, in South Malé atoll. It's located in front of Foxy's left and Riptides rights. Those are the 2 breaks adjacent to the island. Foxy’s is a fast shallow left hander, only semi-consistent, while  Riptides (aka Last stop) is a super  fun right. You have to cross a 40 m channel to get there. Riptides is very consistent and works pretty much at all tides. There are occasional safari boats that show up but crowds are generally much lighter than North Malé. Because South Malé picks up a bit less swell than North Male, we'd recommend to get there during monsoon season : May 15- Oct 15.

The Guest-house sits on the eastern water front, facing Kandooma Resort. There are 7 rooms : 01 triple room, 01 dbl room, 05 twin dbl rooms. All the rooms have Aircon with hot & cold water, the management provide towel and room cleaning every other day.  All meals are taken in the restaurant, where food is being a bit adapted to western standards (less spicy !). In the backyard, there is a private and totally safe area to keep your surfboards in a rack with an outdoor shower,

Guraidhoo is a small fishing island with 1200 people.  There are a few guest shops where tourists from the surrounding resorts like nearby Kandooma buy their souvenirs. The youth play football every day, to join in, they’ll love it. Kitesurfing is an option near the sandy shallow lagoon west of the island. Your host might be able to arrange some fishing lines and try fishing, as there’s plenty of fish around. Don't forget your snorkel equipment ! There are 2 small cafes to have a drink outside the guest-house.  Wifi - Internet is available from your room  (5 usd per day).

Cost : 70€ per day (Double) / 110€ (Single).

That’s the most affordable land-based option in Maldives. Price includes :
  • Aircon room
  • 3 meals a day
  • 2 dingy drops a day to Riptides
